They don't go to steam as it would unleash a streak of piracy (it would make it far more easy) that would render their profits nonexistent. (Especially considering they have made the ELicense system a bit more user friendly by being able to recover your game by providing an email address instead of the E License purchase code). Im just reluctant to call them 'morons' for not catering to steam because I dont know enough about the industry to confidently say they'd make tons more sales and therefore money if they just transfered their entire sales operation exclusively to steam. It leads me to believe that what they are doing is correct. Especially considering that their titles are usually $34.99 - I just question whether or not the 'casual consumer' will shell out something like that for a somewhat niche product for a text based game. Id imagine that their E-License system although considered archiac still makes them money for their dedicated fanbase.
GDS gets a cut, Adam gets a cut, Viva Media don't get a cut because sales via GDS are self-published, Steam doesn't get a cut Steam gets a cut, Viva Media gets a cut, GDS gets a cut, Adam gets a cut They make more money because it's getting split less ways.
